The Pine Project (Pine) team, with contribution from MPP Peter Tabuns recently celebrated the work that’s happened thanks to receiving a Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded last fall, has been used to purchase a vehicle that will give families more flexible transportation options, making it easier for participants to access Pine’s nature programming. This new resource is a critical step in expanding accessibility and ensuring that more underserved communities can benefit from the outdoor experiences Pine offers.
“I am very pleased that Ontario’s support of The Pine Project through OTF, has made an enduring impact, helping to connect so many with nature,” said Peter Tabuns, MPP for Toronto-Danforth.
The Pine Project is committed to creating inclusive spaces where youth can develop their skills, build relationships and contribute positively to their communities. The grant enabled The Pine Project to acquire a reliable passenger vehicle, which will help ensure that participants from a diversity of neighbourhoods and situations can more easily access the vital programs that Pine offers. This van will be instrumental in addressing transportation barriers and will help to improve greater community involvement and engagement.
“We are deeply grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support,” said Andrew McMartin, Executive Director of The Pine Project. “This grant is a game-changer for us. It will allow us to reach more participants, provide consistent and dependable transportation, and ultimately strengthen our ability to serve the wider community.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
