Pine is thrilled to once again be partnering with the Eastview Neighbourhood Community Centre this school year! We’re excited to be joining the BGC Eastview Afterschool Program to bring weekly, no-cost nature connection programming to children in and around Toronto’s Blake-Jones neighbourhood.
Each week since October, we’ve headed outside for new adventures together. From creating pinecone bird feeders for local wildlife to crafting tiny animal sculptures inspired by their favorite creatures, the kids’ curiosity and creativity have been shining through. They’ve also been moving and thinking through hands-on activities like playing games that mimic coyotes and deer, building shelters, learning how animals prepare for winter, and even sledding in the snow!
These experiences are helping kids build confidence, resilience, and a deeper connection to the natural world. As Pine’s Executive Director, Andrew McMartin, said: “Connecting with nature offers transformative benefits for both people and the planet. Providing equitable access to these experiences is essential for fostering a healthier, more sustainable future.”
A huge thank you to TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, the Moez & Marissa Kassam Equity Fund, the Jackman Foundation, the McLean Foundation and the McColl-Early Foundation for making it possible for Pine to offer this weekly programming free of charge! Together, we’re helping more children access nature and its many benefits. We’re looking forward to more moments of wonder, learning, and connection in the weeks to come!
